The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Canada
CGAs need only take ICSA’s final four (4) examinations – Corporate Law, Corporate Secretarial Practice & Procedures, Corporate Administration, and Corporate Governance.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a mastery of accounting, administration, law, finance, management, and supremacy corporate secretaryship . The Institute maintains an international standard exemption policy and holders of recognized university degrees and/or particular professional accounting qualifications are entitled to apply for exemption from some of the required 16 examinations.
ACCA Designation
On December 18, 2006, ACCA and CGA-Canada announced a Mutual Recognition Agreement. The agreement provides a mechanism for members to become designated by the other association. It also formalizes the relationship between two internationally active professional accounting institutions.
Canadian Institute of Financial Planning
CIFP is a registered provider of courses leading to the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Designation. CGAs and students are offered a 15% discount on courses, in addition to an exemption from the Wealth Accumulation exam.
The CIFP and the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) jointly created a distance learning education institute accessible through www.ifse.ca. CIFP provides Web-based training programs for licensing and certification requirements in the Financial Services sector, including Mutual Funds, Financial Planning, Insurance, and Continuing Education.
Canadian Association of Management Consultants
CAMC requires an undergraduate degree as one of the steps to begin the process of getting the CMC designation. The CAMC recognizes the value of the CGA designation and provides degree requirement exemption to CGAs.
The Canadian Association of Management Consultants fosters excellence and integrity in the profession as a whole, and is a supporter for the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation. The Association and its members are enthusiastic to advancing the management consulting profession and delivering the benefits of those efforts to the client community.
The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)
CGAs can obtain a course exemption to Part IV of the four-part exam of the CIA program. The CGA designation is equivalent to the CIA admission requirement of a Bachelor’s degree. Please note: Membership in the Institute of Internal Auditors is open to all CGAs even if you do not possess the CIA designation.
Designation
The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) grants the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation. The CIA designation represents competence in the principles and practices of internal auditing and is the only internationally accepted designation for internal auditors. The institute serves more than 80,000 members from over 100 countries in the areas of internal auditing, governance and internal control, IT audit, education, and security.
Requirements
Successful completion of the CIA exams and two years accepted practical experience are required. CIA candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Work experience does not alternate for an appropriate degree.
Credit Institute of Canada
CGAs receive a 10% discount on the certified credit professional FCI Program. This program consists of eight (8) courses, of which six (6) are core courses (CGAs in good standing are exempt from these – upon payment of exemptions fees) and two (2) in-depth credit management courses – Credit Management and Advanced Credit Management – which CGAs would be required to complete.
The certified credit professional FCI (Fellow Credit Institute) Program provides intermediate and senior credit professionals with the management skills and confidence to assume a leadership role in their organizations. Prior to graduation students must obtain five years of practical experience in a credit position. Designated FCI’s are bound by a code of professional ethics and participate in on-going professional development.
